Jokowi, Indonesia's president, admitted he had not questioned the European Union's decision to ban Indonesia from exporting raw materials to the World Trade Organisation.
The president delivered this message again on Tuesday (March 1, 2022) during a briefing at the National Military police Leadership Meeting in Jakarta. Senior military and police personnel attended the meeting.
"In 2020, I have said stop nickel. Nickel is no longer exported. Nickel raw material, no. Stop. Shipments have to be at least semi-finished and then finished, so that's where our added value is, "Jokowi said.
Jokowi said That Since then, Indonesia has regularly exported raw materials, even today. For hundreds of years, economic transformation has never been done correctly. "For more than 400 years, we didn't have the courage to go to any class," he said.
Jokowi said the government's decision to halt nickel exports was only a first step. In addition, the government will phase out the use of other raw materials to benefit the economy of our country and people.
"Start with nickel. Although we are still under the WTO and then the EU sues us, if we don't dare to try that, we don't dare to do that until the point where we just send raw materials, we get nothing, "he said.
